Zbigniew graduated in 1973 from Politechnika Warszawska with an MS in Aviation Engineering. After graduating, he served as the head of the Aircraft Technology Department with the Polish Aeroklub, also serving as a technical expert for the Polish Ministry of Cummunication's GKBWL (Główna Komisja Badania Wypadków Lotniczych). He taught Aeronautical Construction at the Warsaw Liceum Lotniczym. He holds a pilot's license and served as the Technical Chief of the Polish National Aeronautical and Glider Acrobatic Team.
After moving to the United States in 1978, Zbigniew founded U.S. Financial Ltd., specializing in accounting and financial advice -- as well as mortgage, real estate, and insurance brokerage. Zbigniew appears on a twice-weekly radio program entitled "Magazyn Kieszen," broadcast on WNVR 1300AM and WPNA 1490AM, as well as a weekly television program, "Z Finansowego Zycia Wzięte," on Polvision.
In addition to his career, Zbigniew serves on the boards of several Polish-American cultural and charitable organizations and sponsors various artistic and sporting events, for which he was awarded by the government of the Republic of Poland the Medal za Zasługi dla Kultury. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Polish American Symphony Orchestra (PASO). A long-time supporter of Dar Serca, he was a member of the committee to build the Dar Serca headquarters in Schiller Park, IL. He served one term as President of The Society of Friends of the John Paul II Foundation and is a long-time committee member. He is a member of the economic commission of the Chicago Jesuit Mission and a member of the advisory committee responsible for building the Jezuicki Ośrodek Milenijny and was awarded the "2017 Philanthropic Award" by the Polish American Congress.
Zbigniew lives in Glenview, IL with his wife of 46 years, Helena Karas. He has three children and three grandchildren.
